About

I spent more than three decades complaining about work. Even when I loved it. I had a successful career as a leader at mission driven companies. I designed surveys and the processes around implementing surveys that were focused on collecting data that could be used to help people. Mostly Federal, state, local and foundation funded program improvement projects.

In February 2025, DOGE canceled most of my government contracts. That included a couple that were career highlights: studying persistent poverty counties and building a lifetime longitudinal survey of SNAP participants. In October 2025, I was laid off (reasonably – I had no paying work). I took 9 months off work to decide if I was ready to retire.

Why “ToadWork?“

I loved these Philip Larkin poems since college. I didn’t really appreciate Toads Revisited until I stopped working. I came back to the poems and decided to start a consulting firm.
